DEMOLITION DERBY 2004
Drumheller, Alberta - Aug. 14-15

|
The car that was selected for the demolition was a 1978 Pontiac Catalina. It took over 40 hours of work to make the car "demolition ready". A few of the preparations included, removing all of the glass, re-routing the gas tank to the interior of the car, securing the doors closed and chaining down the hood and trunk.
Our car was sponsored by Drystone Interiors (Trochu), Billy's Construction and Painting (Three Hills), and Country Decor (Three Hills). |

The cars are raced in a 5 foot deep pit, which is approximately 150 by 150 feet square. Our driver this year was our 17 year old son, Daryl Cunningham. Left pic: Here he is taking position in the pit before the start of the race. Right pic: He's gettting lined up for a good hard rear-end hit to the orange station-wagon. Daryl had some powerful hits and did excellent as a first time driver -- great job, Daryl!
|
| Unfortunatly, Daryl had some tough breaks in all three of his heats. The battery wire came unhooked, he over-heated during another race, and he got stuck to another car (shown here on the left) so he was timed out for all three races. Right pic: My husband, Allan, does post-race repairs to protect the tires from being punctured from that jagged metal. |
| My children talked me into racing in the Powder Puff Competition (I was very scared); and somehow or another I ended up winning the darn thing. When the race was over I was very excited! I think I was more excited that it was over, than the fact that I had won. I ended up with a huge bruise on my arm (steering wheel), sore upper arms (from hanging on too tight) and a very sore neck. |

Thanks to Scott McKay Contracting Ltd. (Drumheller) who sponsored the beautiful trophy that I won! Great job to the organizers who worked hard to make this event so much fun!
