Arachne Hotlist

  • Hotlist HTML

  • First, you should know that if you would like to try any of this you can make a new HTML page by setting your Hotlist to point to Newname.htm then bookmark this page. A new page will be created and a link to this page will be the first thing to appear at the tops of it.

You can use Newname.htm to practice with.

  • While bookmarking to Arachne's Hotlist, HTML tags can be added in the title if the "edit hotlist" option is turned on. Now I'm sure that I'm not the first person to discover this, but I have never read anything about it in Arachne's documentation and I think that it would have been nice to read about it somewhere....

  • Arachne is very versatile and when you save a link to the Arachne Hotlist it is possible to enter some HTML tags to change the way your Hotlist looks. In fact, I am making this webpage with the Arachne Hotlist "A" key just to show what I mean.

  • The title as well as the two paragraphs above were created with Arachne's "A"(bookmark page) function. The trick that I used, was to "rename" the bookmark by placing a closing anchor tag ("/a" enclosed in square brackets) AT THE VERY BEGINNING OF THE BOOKMARK "TITLE". Effectively, what I did was to close the bookmark without naming it and then I continued with some text interspersed with Header, font, bold and break tags.

  • The point here was not to write a whole webpage (although it is what I have done) but, to show that Arachne's bookmark "EDIT TITLE" option is an under used resource in our own Hotlists.

  • Try it! Make a new hotlist and start bookmarking to THAT one (reset with your "O"ptions key"). First, put an anchor closing tag ( /a enclosed in square brackets ) after the bookmark title then type in some extra text. Save your new bookmark. Try other HTML tags in the title. Once you get used to the idea, you may want to start making links that look more like this:

  • BACK to the Arachne APM Download Page or
  • Reset00 DOS Portal
  • Your Hotlist
  • Arachne Desktop the very beginning of the Dos Graphical Interface. DGI!

  • In any event, I now enjoy the fact that I can save a link to my Hotlist and add some type of description without the whole thing becoming a link.

Now go ahead and make yourself a brand new Arachne Hotlist and try out your new skills.

It will occur to you sooner or later that although you can nearly write a whole web page using the "A" - save link option, you will be limited by the length of the string that can actually fit inside Arachne's Hotlist title. THIS Hotlist link NOW Maximum size.

  • The final version of this Hotlist Page was edited for clarity using Arachne F4 Web Page Maker/Editor ;-)
