DOS Portal.
You know how every once in a while you run accross a 386 or a 486 with
a 720K drive only. Well, you could use some file splitting utility to put
her on two disks and that would work also, but, I felt that there was a
need for a toolbox sized working version of Arachne so...
The EXE will extract itself to ara175xg directory.
All Arachne executables, ftp and email functions have been retained with the exception that png2bmp.exe has been replaced with jpng2bmp from a previous version of Arachne and does not seem to work quite as well for those very few times that you run across a png graphic file.
Removed in this abridged version:
The \examples and \backup directories have been removed.
CuteMouse removed and replaced with accelerated keyboard navigation.
Plany removed and replaced with lxvox for internal speaker.
skins have been removed.
CSS option is turned off to enable better "Tab" key navigation.
Most of the help files have been removed except for those I thought essential.
Most of the .htm, .ht and .ah files had extra code removed to save space.
Homepage no longer points to arachne.cz to relieve stress on the servers.
The home page now points to www.reset00.com
The swirl background (back.gif) option has been removed.
Extras:
Takes up less than 2.5Mb of disk space.
keyrate.com added to the executables for accelerated keyboard navigation
Keyboard acceleration can be executed from the standard home.htm page.
lxvox tiny (1700 bytes) WAV file player for the internal speaker.
games were added.
A game directory was created (to hold the games).
Ask.com has been added to the executables.
A bookmark directory was created and contains menu.htm.
setactiv.ah and clone have been added to \system\gui for Shift-F2 functions.
Create or Remove Directories from Shift-F2.
Will also change bookmark (hotlist?) and download directory from Shift-F2.
175xpert - 568K no *.acf, no arachne.cfg no
graphics. Best make a new directory.
Note: Expert leaves enough room on a PTSDOS 720K bootdisk for himem.sys,
pkunzjr.com, a packed version of xmsdsk.exe, config.sys and autoexec.bat.
Of course, attrib, deltree and Xcopy are included in command.com. She
is fully functional as is and you can install her graphics.apm as soon as
Expert is online.
